Syllabus Tips from the Faculty Development Center
The Eastern Michigan University Student Handbook contains information for students about available university services, university policies and procedures, and helpful information to aid in student success. Below are a few of the most important resources, but you should familiarize yourself with the student handbook to best serve your students.
Academic Success
Holman Success Center
The Holman Success Center (HSC) provides services to all students—those at risk, on academic probation, and currently well-performing—that support the development of skills they need to achieve academic success. Programs include tutoring, supplemental instruction, success coaching, and peer mentoring.
The University Advising & Career Development Center (UACDC) is a team of professionals who advise, counsel and coach individuals with their learning and career development.
The Campus Life team works to engage students in their college experience, connect students with the campus community, and involve students in experiences that will support their success. Here, students can find events and activities, student organizations, and fraternity and sorority life.
The Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion works to create an environment that supports and empowers students, faculty, and staff to fully participate in the living, learning, and working environments at Eastern Michigan University without identity-based barriers.
This office includes the Center of Race and Ethnicity (CORE), LGBT Resource Center, Women’s Resource Center, Brotherhood and Sisterhood Scholars Program (BHSH), and Mentorship, Access, and Guidance in College (MAGIC).
The Lt. Col. Charles S. Kettles Military and Veteran Services Resource Center provides dedicated academic and personal support, tailored to address the unique needs of veterans who are in pursuit of a degree from EMU.
Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is dedicated to addressing the mental health needs of Eastern Michigan University students. They provide free, confidential counseling using a short-term model for students enrolled at least half-time.
The Office of Financial Aid provides access, aid and advisory services for the EMU Community to facilitate student recruitment, enrollment, and retention at Eastern Michigan University.
The Dean of Students Office works with students, student families, faculty and staff to create a culture of care designed to enhance students’ academic and personal success. This includes, but is not limited to, conduct reporting, extended attendance concerns, and student intervention teams.
The Office of the Ombuds provides timely, objective and strategic information in a confidential manner to assist with the interpretation of policies and procedures at EMU.
Sexual Misconduct Prevention and Response Office (formerly Title IX Office)
The Sexual Misconduct Prevention and Response Office works to prevent and effectively respond to all forms of gender discrimination and sexual misconduct that occurs within and impacts EMU’s university community.
