EMUFT is a member-driven organization. This means that unlike many other unions, EMUFT is not a professionalized union. Instead we all are the union. All of our voices are important to ensure the best working conditions and a thriving community of educators. One way to make your voice heard is by joining a committee or subcommittee. Your input is needed! Your insights and opinions matter! We all have unique skills, talents, ideas and experiences. By sharing these with your community through a committee, you can make a real difference! To express your interest and join a committee, contact [email protected]

organizing committee
Member organizing is one of the keys to being a powerful force for positive change on campus. The more of us get involved, the more diverse and powerful our voice will become. As such, the Organizing Committee develops and oversees the education, training, and mobilization of members. Projects:
The Grievance Committee works with the Stewards in the resolution of contractual and non-contractual disputes in the workplace, maintains records of grievances and their disposition, is responsible for responding to and resolving grievances and disputes beyond the immediate work location, and makes recommendation to the Union Council regarding disputes to be taken to arbitration or civil remedy. Projects:
Supporting members through the grievance process
Ensuring member understanding of their contract
bargaining Committee
Bargaining CommitteeThe Bargaining Committee oversees the development of a bargaining platform and engages in collective bargaining. While this committee is arguably one of the more labor intensive - certainly in terms of emotional investment during bargaining - there are many ways to be engaged. The more people join the team, the more manageable the individual work pieces. Do you have a talent to analyze budget sheets? Are you a public health care professional? Do you have an analytical mind? What about your ability to debate or solve conflict? These and many more skills are needed on the bargaining team. Subcommittees:
Bargaining Roadmap Committee - This subcommittee explores various contractual elements in preparation of collective bargaining
Campaign Action Committee - This subcommittee plans campaign and escalation actions during bargaining
Social Justice committee
The Social Justice Committee is brought together by a collective goal of increasing social responsibility and awareness of social justice issues impacting EMUFT members within the wider EMU campus community. Projects:
