The economic survey last year and the bargaining survey this year have highlighted the challenges many of you face in your daily lives. Low wages, lack of advancement, lack of access to health care for PTLs, and the insecurity of continued employment are the top concerns of part-time lecturers at Eastern Michigan University.
While these concerns are omnipresent for us, the world around us thinks that we must be 'bringing home the big bucks' because - after all - we are 'professors'. Invite your students and AAUP colleagues to a screening of the acclaimed documentary "In Search of Professor Precarious: A documentary that lifts the curtain on Higher Education dirty little secret". Join us on April 5, 2023 from 6-8 pm in the Student Center Auditorium Following the screening, we will host a roundtable facilitated by some of your colleagues to demystify what it means to be a lecturer. LBC credits will available for students. |
BE part of the teamUnifying our two contracts is a massive undertaking and we need to assemble a support community that will help with research, planning, organizing, actions, note-taking, observing, and serving on the actual bargaining team. There are a variety of ways to get involved with a wide range of possible time commitments. You can contribute to our efforts in person or behind the scenes, depending on your preferences and comfort level. We need you and your talents! Take a moment to indicate what support you would be willing to lend to shape the best possible new contract. CLICK HERE
